My baby's cord fell off 7 days after her birth. We didn't give her a bath until it fell off as it is advised not to get the cord wet.

What to put on it to dry it up? Or does it automatically dry up? Also for the circumcised boys do you put Vaseline on it or Neosporin?

I did not want to give my newborn a bath, only a sponge bath because I did not want to wet the cord. The nurses were very condensending about that. He was my first baby, during covid at that, and I had nobody but them. They practically forced me to bathe him. So when I went home, I kept bathing him, thinking it was the correct way. His stump stayed wet no matter how much I patted it dry. Soon, it started to have a little smell. And I just stopped submerging him under water like the nurses showed me and just gave him a warm sponge bath, avoiding the peg. It dried up and fell off within 10 days from birth. He now has an outie but kinda an inni, too. I was so pissed off at myself that I didn't trust my instincts.

I remember when I saw the stump on my baby brother the first thing I did was try to take it out, my parents had to physically hold me back everytime he wasn't wearing a shirt cause I would've ripped it out, so you can imagine the relief I felt when they said I could pull it out(it had fallen off but my parents put it back in and let me pull it out(
